Hilary Ego
Climate Leadership Awardee
Hilary Ego was nominated for the 2023 Climate Leadership Award because she is a dedicated and enthusiastic professional who works tirelessly to implement the City of La Mesa’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) and be a change agent in her community. As her supervisor at the City of La Mesa, Hilary successfully navigates a myriad CAP projects, which include actions to reduce GHG emissions through projects and programs focused on energy efficiency, transportation, urban forestry, solid waste recycling, and water conservation. She leads all citywide sustainability efforts in the CAP categories including: coordinating community events and virtual workshops, online educational resources, interdepartmental staff collaboration, presentations to City Council, grant applications and reporting, Federal, State, and local policy, author ordinances, foster relationships with community groups, identifying City facility energy and water savings, GHG reduction monitoring, solid waste recycling programs, lead the Environmental Sustainability Commission, Annual CAP reporting, and is currently working on an extensive CAP update process. Hilary is a fantastic mentor and supervises one full-time Analyst, two full-time CivicSpark Fellows, and local university interns. In addition, she has served an Advisory Board Member of the San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative and recently completed her term as Board Chair. Hilary was also recently recognized as a 2023 San Diego Business Journal Asian American and Pacific Islander Leader of Influence for her work at the City of La Mesa. Not only is Hilary committed to climate action in her professional life, she is also passionate about educating others in her personal life and authored a children’s book titled, “How I Save the Earth.” Hilary Ego is a recipient of the 2023 Climate Leadership Award because she embodies the qualities of a leader, community member, and teammate to continue working towards a stabilized climate future.
