Funding to Attend Mexican Congress of Coral Reefs
A Binational Working Group 2022 Small Grants Recipient
This Small Grants funding provided Binational Working Group scientists with the opportunity to network and connect with others in their field at XI Mexican Congress of Coral Reefs, while sharing relevant information related to reefs’ climate resilience.
Experimental Black Abalone Translocation
A Binational Working Group 2022 Small Grants Recipient
In order to restore natural populations and protect coastal resilience, Small Grant funds were used to document and expand on a translocation experimental project and subsequent monitoring of black abalone populations in Baja California.
Microclimate Conditions at the Doña Petra Canyon
A Binational Working Group 2022 Small Grants Recipient
This project aims to create interwoven ecological corridors and green routes as a solution to urban heat islands in the city of Ensenada, Baja California. With support from the Small Grants program, the project scientists are creating a valuable dataset that will help inform solutions.
Biodiversity and pyrodiversity in San Pedro Mártir mountain range
A Binational Working Group 2022 Small Grants Recipient
This project aims to determine the relationship between pyrodiversity and forest biodiveristy in the San Pedro Mártir mountain range. With support from the Small Grants program, project scientists are collecting information about how species respond to fires of different severities.
Carbon Sequestration in Mangrove Ecosystems
A Project Led by Alliance Climate Intern
Led by the Alliance’s Climate Intern, Paula Sternberg Rodríguez, this project compared tools, techniques, and methodologies for the assessment of total carbon in mangrove forests, with the goal of facilitating carbon estimates for mangrove blue carbon studies.
Climate Change and the Baja California Peninsula
A Baja Working Group Report
The goal of this project is to give rise to discussion around the subject of downscaled climate knowledge for the Baja California Peninsula, and to identify needs and future areas of collaboration. This report includes case studies of research activities across the region and provides an opportunity to better understand the state of our knowledge, identify research gaps, and advance collaboration.
Attenuatas Forest Restoration
Post-Fire Restoration of the Pinus attenuata Forest
The goal of the Attenuatas project is to ensure the full restoration of the forest after a 2017 fire destroyed a third of the Pinus attenuata forest. These efforts include monitoring the region alongside local university undergraduate and graduate students, as well as working with local schools and youth organizations to use this as an educational opportunity to learn about this unique ecological zone.
