Overview
The Indigenous Fire, Forestry, and Fuels Crew is trained in fire, forestry, and fuels management to support efforts in the region to address fire danger in historically excluded communities and to advance resilient and adaptive pathways for conserving the land.

Under expert guidance by La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians Tribal Fire Chief Wesley Ruise, Jr. and in collaboration with the Climate Science Alliance and its Tribal Working Group, this three-tiered model is building capacity and job opportunities while advancing efforts to build economic and climate resilience in Tribal and non-tribal communities across Southern California.

Established in 2022, this program focuses on advancing Tribal stewardship through creating a sustained, fully funded, stand-alone Indigenous-led fire, forestry, and fuels crew that is available to lead fuel reduction, prescribed and cultural burning, and native plant restoration throughout the region.

Support for the Crew comes from the California Department of Conservation and the Resource Conservation District of Greater San Diego County. Learn more here.
