Our newest Affiliated Artist is Natalie Dupille, a cartoonist, illustrator, and teaching artist who splits her time between Seattle and world traveling. Read the Q&A below to get to know the newest artist in the Alliance family!
Climate Science Alliance (Alliance):What drew you to creating comics? Have you always made comics?
Natalie Dupille (Natalie): I love alternative comics because they are a beautiful and accessible art form that can convey lots of information to the reader in a relatable way. While I have always been drawn to using a combination of words and pictures, it wasn't until college, when I found alternative comics, that I started to intentionally focus my own work in that direction. It was love at first sight and I haven't looked back!
Alliance: Share your favorite moment you've experienced while traveling.
Natalie: Experiencing the magic of scuba diving was quite possibly one of the best moments of my life. All I could think was "There is literally a whole world under here!" I was in Indonesia, and I didn't want to spend a second out of the water, except to draw everything that I'd seen underneath it. I'm slowly but surely building up my dive experience and hope to eventually partake in some research diving.
Alliance: Anything else you would like our partners to know about you?
Natalie: I love working on custom projects and commissions for people and organizations, especially if I can help to tell a story. My website showcases much of this work. A favorite project I recently worked on was a collaboration with an earth and space scientist, conveying her research on space dust in an illustrated book. It's called "Total Lunarcy" and is available in my online store along with many other cards, books, and prints!
