Alliance Supports La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians in Creating a Climate Adaptation Plan


The Climate Science Alliance supported the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians Environmental Department in creating their 2019 Climate Adaptation Plan to advance Tribal resilience now and in the future. Check it out today!

Last year, the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians Environmental Department created their 2019 Climate Adaptation Plan in collaboration with the Climate Science Alliance, with funding from the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior.

The 130+ page living document features:

  • Climate change drivers and exposures on a global, national, regional, and local scale.

  • Climate change impacts to the Reservation and its people

  • Natural and Cultural Resources​,

  • Infrastructure and Economy

  • Human Health and Wellness

  • Community and Traditions

The 2019 Climate Adaptation Plan is a living document that may evolve through successive updates, be expanded as needed, and serve different purposes over time as deemed appropriate by the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians. The Plan was prepared by the La Jolla Band of Luiseño Indians Environmental Department in collaboration with the Climate Science Alliance, with funding from the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior.

KCET, a public broadcasting station in Southern and Central California, recently featured the La Band of Luiseño Indians Adaptation Plan in their article, “The Disproportionate Impact of Climate Change on Indigenous Communities”, which referenced multiple California Tribes who are leading climate change-related planning and adaptation.
