Climate Kids is excited to be back in the classroom, but this time, in-person! While the Climate Science Alliance team and its dedicated partners adapted to the online teaching environment, it was a marked occasion for connecting with youth in-person for the first time since early 2020.
Climate Science Alliance Collaboration and Engagement Coordinator Ana Lutz-Johnson presented to a group of students attending the Fleet Science Center’s summer camp and shared the impacts of climate change on wildlife in our region, what we can do to help, and her personal journey through the world of STEM.
Ana’s presentation was timely, as the summer camp’s weekly focus was on “Women Scientists in Action”, where youth explored different fields of science by interacting with local women scientists, participating in hands-on activities, and investigating careers in science.
During the presentation, Ana shared the impacts of climate change on wildlife in our region, and most importantly, the actions we can take to help wildlife and our planet. Together, they discussed the Alliance’s role in bridging the world between science and our community, and how Climate Kids are a significant component to achieving our collective vision. The presentation was followed by an in-depth discussion on Ana’s personal journey as a woman in STEM, her role at the Alliance, and what gives her climate hope while participating in a hands-on coyote origami activity.
