Climate Science Alliance hosted a Marine Node for Border BioBlitz in collaboration with the San Diego Natural History Museum with over 30 participants and youth!
A BioBlitz is an intense period of biological surveying to record all the living species within a designated area in a short amount of time. This year, the Climate Science Alliance partnered with Sonoran Desert Researchers and the San Diego Natural History Museum in the 2023 Border BioBlitz. On April 15th, Climate Science Alliance set out to sea with over 30 participants and youth to register as many species of plants and animals as possible.
All photos taken were added to the 2023 Border BioBlitz iNaturalist project, where anyone from all over the world can see the observations taken 5 km from either side of the US-Mexico border. This particular node focused on marine life, registering everything from sea birds, dolphins, whales, seaweed and algae, inverts, and even plankton!
Thank you to all who participated and contributed to the 2023 project! Special thanks to Dr. Sula Vanderplank, Bianca Bonilla, Cypress Hansen, and Lauren Marino Perez for helping to put this day together.
