Climate Science Alliance Partners with 'ataaxum Pomkwaan

The Climate Science Alliance is excited to share about our partnership with 'ataaxum Pomkwaan. Through this partnership, we aim to increase Payómkawichum perspectives in Climate Kids resources and explore ways that Tribal youth can be involved in climate change adaptation solutions and climate workforce pathways.

In February 2024, Jeanette from the the Climate Science Alliance met with 'ataaxum Pomkwaan to to kick off our new partnership.

The Climate Science Alliance and 'ataaxum Pomkwaan aim to increase Payómkawichum perspectives in Climate Kids resources and explore ways that Tribal youth can be involved in climate change adaptation solutions and climate workforce pathways.

One incredible resource that we plan to add to the new Climate Science & Fire Trunk is a book that shares the story of Why Fly Rubs His Hands Together with gorgeous illustrations by Anthony Hurtado, Tohono O'odham/ Payomkawichum.

We were able to meet up with Anthony Hurtado at the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians recreation center and snap a quick photo of Anthony with a draft of the book alongside 'ataaxum Pomkwaan team members Ami Admire and Esmeralda Salcedo. Recognize that name? Anthony illustrated the logo for MAATHAAW: The Fire Within Us, an Indigenous-led documentary from Condor Visual Media.

We are so thankful to work with 'ataaxum Pomkwaan and excited to see what we create together!
