Climate Science Alliance Team Builds New Traveling Trunks for Southern Tribal Hub!

The Climate Science Alliance team has been hard at work building out resources to expand our Climate Kids Traveling Trunks program! In November, a subset of our team convened over several days to build out new trunks that will reside with the Manzanita Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and serve the Southern Tribes of San Diego County. The Climate Science Alliance team has been hard at work building out resources to expand our Climate Kids Traveling Trunks Program! In November, a subset of our team convened over several days to build out new Trunks that will reside with the Manzanita Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. This new location will serve as the Southern Tribal Distribution Hub of the Climate Kids Traveling Trunks, which will be available for checkout in the near future.
The Climate Science Alliance team worked diligently to build 5 trunks covering the topics of climate impacts to oceans, pollinators, carnivores, air, and food systems while practicing social distancing, wearing masks, and frequently sanitizing. Highlights from the day included safely convening in-person to compile resources that support youth education on climate change through science activities, storytelling, and art.

Traveling Trunks provide all the resources needed to teach climate science in the virtual classroom. Each trunk includes background information, lesson plans, powerpoints, activities, and materials to increase climate literacy for students. Our trunks feature interactive science, storytelling, and art curriculum aligned to Next Generation Science Standards.
