Climate Science Alliance Visits Site of Managed Shoreline Retreat Project in Ventura, CA

Climate Science Alliance visited Surfer’s Point in Ventura, California, the site of a managed shoreline retreat project that consists of a dune restoration network.

On May 14, 2024 the Climate Science Alliance team and Alliance Advisor Dr. Megan Jennings, San Diego State University, visited the Surfer’s Point Managed Shoreline Retreat project on Chumash lands in Ventura, California on their way back from Limuw island (read about this visit here). The site highlights the benefits of implementing nature-based solutions to coastal erosion, in this case dune restoration and planting of native coastal plant species.

As California Sea Grant and other Climate Science Alliance partners are leading similar dune restoration efforts along the Southern California coastline in the hopes of increasing coastal resilience in the face of climate change, it was a great opportunity for the Alliance team to see this project in person.
