The Día de las Áreas Protegidas (Celebration of the Day of the Protected Areas of Latin America and the Caribbean) is an opportunity to value the Natural and Cultural Areas important for the well-being of peoples in this region and beyond. This day also serves as an opportunity to face the challenges that the management of protected areas requires.
In celebration of the day, the project team invited partners and community members to decorate and install the wooden panels that are used to accumulate sand, and eventually form the dunes. Dozens of local volunteers spent a day at the Hacienda la Esperanza Reserve, breaking down wooden pallets and painting beautiful illustrations and messaging on the panels. These planks will be used to begin building the second of the dune restoration sites at the Hacienda.
