Educator Training Kicks off the release of the Climate Kids “Climate and Fire” Traveling Trunk–now available for checkout at The Nat

On January 16, 2025, educators alike joined the Climate Science Alliance and San Diego Natural History Museum for an evening of interactive training to learn about the Climate Kids Climate Science & Fire Traveling Trunk. Participants explored the activities and learned more about how they can check out all the Climate Kids Traveling Trunks from the Nature To You Loan Program, offered by the San Diego Natural History Museum.

On January 16, 2025,  the Climate Science Alliance teamed up with our partners at the San Diego Natural History Museum to host an interactive training for 23  formal and informal educators, outdoor educators, and Tribal educators. The training explored and focused on the Climate Kids Climate Science and Fire Traveling Trunk. This Trunk is our newest resource focused on good fire, indigenous stewardship, and the important role fire plays in our ecosystems. The interactive training, led by Climate Science Alliance Director of Education & Engagement Jeanette Starpine, gave educators new skills and ideas for teaching K-12 students about climate change and good fire through hands-on science activities, storytelling, and art.

The Climate Kids Climate Science and Fire Traveling Trunk will be added to all Climate Kids Hubs, including the Nature to You Loan Program at the San Diego Natural History Museum. Climate Kids Traveling Trunks are education kits with everything that you need to teach youth about a variety of topics related to climate change impacts and solutions and cover topics including Climate Science and Pollinators, Climate Science and Food Systems, Climate Science and Atmospheric Chemistry (and more).
