Climate Science Alliance enjoyed hosting the Mastering the Art of Grant Writing: Strategic Success and Purposeful Funding webinar on August 13, 2024. Three impactful guest speakers, Elizabeth Cameron of the Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples, Cliff Banuelos of the Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada, and Kurt Broz of the Pala Band of Mission Indians, joined us. Over 50 individuals attended the webinar.

The workshop covered private, federal, and state funding. The main focal areas were to:

  • Understand the fundamentals of grant writing.

  • Identify funding sources and understand their requirements.

  • Develop strong proposals with clear objectives, methods, and budgets.

  • Enhance skills in writing compelling narratives and storytelling.

Each speaker was able to share their own experiences and tips when applying to different grants and funding sources. The workshop shared resources, including creating a case statement, a statement of need, and where to find grants. There was time after each speaker for participants to ask questions and there was little to no hesitation. Many of the participants shared comments on how beneficial this workshop was. One of the participants remarked,

"I want to affirm you, that what you are teaching today is needed"
