Sacred Places Institute hosts first Coastal Listening Session

On July 20, 2024, Climate Science Alliance supported Sacred Places Institute to host the first of a series of Coastal Listening Sessions. The event took place on Tongva Homelands at AltaSea in the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. It was an opportunity to foster a safe and supportive environment where participants gathered to reflect on the collective vision for Tribal coastal resiliency.


The inaugural Coastal Listening Session of a series occurred on Tongva Homelands at AltaSea in the Port of Los Angeles, starting dialogue about the future of our coastlines. Participants heard from a lineup of passionate speakers, including Angela Mooney D’Arcy, Founder and Executive Director of the Sacred Places Institute, and Laura Engeman from CA Sea Grant, alongside [name?] from Heal the Bay. They tackled current important topics such as dune restoration, coastal water quality, and equitable access to our coastlines.


The session featured an engaging breakout discussion, inviting attendees to share their personal experiences with the coast—both uplifting and challenging. This supportive environment fostered meaningful exchanges, allowing participants to share their aspirations for enhanced Tribal involvement in coastal resilience efforts.
