Indigenous Climate Art Advisor

Johnny Bear is a recognized public artist, sculptor, and community leader. Through art he contextualizes the Native Community in a contemporary setting allowing it to be preserved for generations ahead. An award-winning artist, his multi-disciplinary contributions to the local art world and indigenous communities, are displayed throughout California and the United States. Each piece a testament and dedication to keeping the Kumeyaay and Native American heritage alive. “It is not just about preserving the past, but inspiring and mentoring Native youth for the future.” Serving as a board member, cultural practitioner and advisor for numerous organizations, Johnny truly puts in the work. Making sure the importance of Native American culture and its’ preservation is for generations to come.


As the Indigenous Climate Art Advisor, Johnny Bear collaborates, co-creates, advises, and supports efforts to mentor and create a collective of artists advancing climate outreach and education. He plays an important role in the Climate Science Alliance to help create, maintain, and nurture collaborative efforts to advance Indigenous led stewardship of the land and ocean, including but not limited to exploring opportunities to create art as a pathway to support communication and educational outreach for climate stewardship and solutions.
